Reconstructing Memory in European Cities
13. Mai 2019
Interner Workshop der Balzan-Preis-Forschergruppe
Cities are crucial spaces where seemingly forgotten or contested pasts can be traced. Within the interdisciplinary field of cultural memory in urban contexts, this workshop aims to provide a space for discussion of works in progress. By focusing on the processes of construction, contestation and reshaping of memory, we will focus on the representations of different historical and mnemonic layers inscribed in the urban fabric. Along with the analysis of different forms of urban representation of memory in European cities, we explore the emergence of memory practices ‘from below’, that reshape collective memory and identity.
